Some opportunities don't arrive the moment you expect them. For Jake, the path to Spanish football has been one built on patience, performance, and a willingness to step into the unknown.
Originally from Liverpool, Jake grew up with genuine interest from professional clubs in his local area. But despite showing clear potential, his big break never came. Rather than wait around for a door to open in England, Jake chose to look elsewhere, and that decision brought him to SST's Summer Showcase in 2025.
A Slow Start That Turned Into Something Real
Jake arrived at the showcase with some hesitation. A different country, a different language, a different style of football; it's a lot to take in at once. But over the course of the event he settled into the environment, took to the training, and when the showcase games came, he delivered. His performances stood out, as a robust midfielder with strong physical qualities alongside a good level of technical ability and we took note.
Now the reality is to get an opportunity from one of our showcase events, there are many factors that have to align: the right club/scout to be in attendance, a club looking for a player in your specific position, etc. For Jake, a direct opportunity didn't materialise immediately after the showcase. But that wasn't the end of the story. At SST, we don't see a showcase as a single transaction. We invest in players over the longer term, stay in contact, and look to build real relationships. We know the right moment for the right player isn't always immediate.
Jake's moment has now arrived.
The Opportunity: Almuñécar CF
Jake returns to Spain this week to begin a trial with Almuñécar CF, a club riding the momentum of one of their best ever seasons. Having just won promotion from Segunda Andaluza as champions, they now step up to Primera Andaluza; a category where they'll face sides of the calibre of Granada C and some of the strongest opposition on the Costa Tropical.
The club plays out of one of the best stadiums in the region, carries strong local support, and has the ambition and infrastructure to keep climbing. Their sights are firmly set on reaching the Tercera Federación Division. Critically, they are actively open to international talent that can improve their squad, and Jake has the profile to do exactly that.
For a player making his first real entry into the Spanish football system, the fit couldn't be better on either side.
What This Step Means
SST Director James Dawes explained the thinking behind the placement:
"When players imagine coming to Spain for the first time and playing football over here. A lot of them arrive with the perspective that they're going to directly access professional opportunities; but we always tell our players that Spain, just like England and any of the top leagues in European football, is difficult and there's a lot of competition for places. Players have to find a way to get into the system and prove themselves.
Jake will be going into a very difficult league, one that we as staff have all had direct experience in, and it'll be a real test of character. Playing against high-level semi-professional opposition with the chance to showcase his qualities. The club has fantastic facilities, a great following in the town, they're playing at a high category, and they're a forward-thinking club actively interested in international talent. We see this as a fantastic opportunity and we thank Almuñécar CF for their collaboration in allowing Jake to come in, train, and see what happens."
Jake Adair's story is still being written. But the next chapter starts this week, in the south of Spain, in front of a crowd that loves their football, at a club with everything to play for.
Interested in following the same path? The Summer Showcase 2026 is our next opportunity for players who are serious about a Spanish pathway. Places are screened individually and allocated by age group. If you want to understand whether this is the right fit, the first step is simply finding out more.
